IDF has partnered with RRA network (www.rainfedindia.org), a network of developmental agencies, to work on rain fed farming systems in Kunigal taluk. It aims to integrate various themes viz; land and soil productivity, water resources, cropping systems, paddy ecosystems and SRI, seed systems, livestock promotional services, inland fisheries, credits, institutions and financial inclusion. The overall objective is to improve accessibility and, bridge services and programs of rural development to build support systems to rain fed farming.

A comprehensive pilot project is launched to exclusively intervene on these themes and test their efficacy to plan for larger intervention at taluk level. Focus of the pilot was on capacity building of the community, building partnership with mainstream agencies such as line departments, identification of challenges in rain fed agriculture and evolving strategies to address them.
